Your car, truck or suv's ac compressor is the primary part of the cooling system that helps cool the air that comes through the interior vents in your cars. Its a mechanical device around 15lbs that has a round pulley on it that is driven by your vehicles engine rotation. A belt is attached to the pulley and that allows it to turn, forcing air through the Freon filled chambers that will cool and dehumidify the warm outside air. This freon is under charge or pressure and in the event a leak comes up the freon will evaporate out and the cooling process stops. At this point sometimes your cars compressor can limp along with frequent re-charges of Freon but this can get expensive and ultimately never solve the problem.
